Culinary Competition Team

The Osceola Culinary Competition meetings are held every Monday and Thursday after school in either Chef Wright’s or Chef Tomkinson’s room.  The length of each meeting varies.

Dance Team

The dance team performs at varsity football and basketball games. Tryouts are in the spring for the next school year. The routines consist of jazz kicks, turns, and leaps including front and side leaps, chaînés (sha-na) and double turns, fan- and side-kicks. A summer camp will be held.

EHS

The National English Honor Society (NEHS), founded and sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, is the only national organization exclusively for high school students and faculty who, in the field of English, merit special note for past and current accomplishments.

Future Business Leaders of America

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the largest student business organization in the country with over 250,000 members.  In Florida, FBLA functions as an integral part of the instructional program of the business education program in secondary schools.

The driving goal of FBLA is to train future business leaders to be contributing members of society.  Members benefit from leadership training, contacts made through networking, and opportunities to apply their knowledge through business-related activities.

FFEA

OHS Florida Future Educators of America club is for any student who wants to work with children or teaching- teaching (elementary through college), day care, preschool, human resources, coaching, tutoring. We have weekly meetings where lesson planning, child development, and other education related topics. Each January, the club attends the FFEA State Conference. In 2010, our chapter president was elected to the state office of vice-president. In 2011, our chapter president-elect was elected to the state secretary position. Also in 2011, the OHS members won first place in the chapter display contest. Please see Mrs. Powers in room 226 for more information.

GSA

GSA or Gay Straight Alliance is affiliated with the national network, GLSEN (Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network), and works toward improving Osceola’s climate and acceptance of all students; including gay, lesbian, and straight students.  Osceola’s GSA meets every Wednesday during lunch in room 209.  Any student at OFHS can join this club, we are open and accepting of all individuals.  GSA is free to join, there are no fees unless the student chooses to participate in some of the County’s GSA activities.

Spanish National Honor Society is for students who have excelled in their Spanish Class. Application requires students to have completed Spanish 3, be at least a sophomore and have certain GPA standards.

Oracle

The Oracle, Osceola’s award-winning literary magazine, publishes student prose, poetry, art, and music.  The staff meets every Thursday after school in 224, Mr. Stewart’s room.  The club reads and critiques every submission in order to decide which pieces will be featured in our magazine.  The Oracle has won first place ranking from the Florida Scholastic Press Association, the statewide student journalism organization, for the past four years.  The Oracle promotes an atmosphere in which students grow creatively and socially.

SADD

Meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month during both lunches in Room #165. SADD is open to all students  to join. SADD is a peer to peer lead group that lead by example,  and encourages peers to make good decisions in all that they do. SADD students promote wearing seats, say no to drugs & alcohol,  promote safe driving skills, bring awareness to issues affecting the community and teenagers.

Ukulele Players

Ukelele

The Ukulele Club is a newly-organized club centered around the learning of how to play the ukulele. The club meets on specific Monday's throughout the school year. The main goals of this club are to teach everyone how to play the ukulele, whether or not they have any prior musical knowledge, learn songs, arrange ensembles, as well as outreach to the community within Osceola Fundamental High School/around the area by playing at functions/nursing homes/children's hospitals. No prior music knowledge is required. Just a ukulele, yourself, a friend, and a smile! Come check it out!

OFHS Freshman selected as finalist in Largo Library Short Story Compeition!

Brenna Garcia received an Honorable Mention certificate and fifty dollars for her story “On a Chilled Winter’s Day.”   It was one of eighteen stories chosen from among over 300 submitted from middle and high schools all over Pinellas County.

OFHS STUDENTS ENJOY RINGLING MUSEUM AND ASOLO THEATRE

OFHS students visited the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota.  They also toured the art conservation lab and the Ringlings’ art library.  Students from Mr. Stewart’s Literature the Arts and AP Art History classes had studied the art in the museum and were docents for the other students on the trip.  In the evening the students saw Clybourne Park, a play based on Lorraine Hansberry’s classic A Raisin in the Sun, which many of the students had read.
