A Fundamental Experience

Snore-No-More Coffee Shop

Snore No More Coffee

The Snore-No-More Coffee Shop sells regular and flavored coffee, iced coffee,  hot tea and hot chocolate.   This School Based Enterprise provides a work environment where students in the autistic program at OFHS learn and develop vocational skills in a real-world setting.  There is the main coffee shop in the school cafeteria, as well as 3 satellite carts, that take our products to our customers.

The jobs our students learn encompass a wide variety of skills that we work on daily, including;  social interactions with peers and staff, learning the prep, set up, maintenance and cleanup of the work areas, problem solving, appropriate interactions when working with others/teamwork, customer service, money and measurement skills, restocking and proper use of supplies.  From this experience they gain self-confidence, stamina for work tasks, and learn to take pride in their work.

OFHS students visited the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota.  They also toured the art conservation lab and the Ringlings’ art library.  Students from Mr. Stewart’s Literature the Arts and AP Art History classes had studied the art in the museum and were docents for the other students on the trip.  In the evening the students saw Clybourne Park, a play based on Lorraine Hansberry’s classic A Raisin in the Sun, which many of the students had read.
